Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a therapy that unlocks the power
of the subconscious mind to control physiological
conditions. It has proven to effectively relieve
pain, reduce stress and allow people to alter
unwanted behaviors. Some studies show relief for
patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome,
side effects of chemotherapy, and pregnancy-related
nausea. Other reports indicate that hypnotherapy
can help patients lose weight or stop smoking.
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind
that can occur when a person is absorbed in thoughts
or external stimuli and becomes oblivious to certain
things around them (picture being caught up in
a TV program and not hearing someone calling to
you or missing your exit on the freeway because
you were lost in your thoughts). In hypnotherapy,
practitioners aid patients into such a state and
then make suggestions that will help guide them
to overcome subconscious beliefs or barriers.
